New!

In 2010, Everyday Democracy contacted Generation Justice to document the New Mexico Strong Starts for Children Initiative. In this process, several youth participated as videographers, photographers, narrators, and editors for 7 videos for 5 community groups. Generation Justice is now proud to share a special view on the youth media makers. The "Generation Justice Story" highlights the impact this experience had on the youth media makers and how they grew to value the importance of young children. to view this video go to: http://www.generationjustice.org/2012/06/19/generation-justices-story-strong-starts-for-children-initiative/

Strong Starts for Children is an initiative launched in 2010 that aims to bring community members together to create brighter future for all our children. With funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Everyday Democracy is working closely with five groups in the greater Albuquerque area to help them find ways for all kinds of people to talk, work, and take action together on issues related to the success of all children from birth to eight.

The five Albuquerque groups are:

  • All Indian Pueblo Council
  • Cuidando los Niños/NM Campaign to End Child Homelessness
  • Native American Professional Parent Resources, Inc.
  • UNM Family Development Program/Decade of the Child
  • YDI, Inc./Pajarito Mesa

The groups engaged their communities in dialogues during the fall of 2010 to address issues such as school readiness, health, affordable housing, and access for families to support and opportunities to ensure that all our children, families, and communities are thriving. At the end of the year, the participants in the dialogues identified top priority action items and recruited teams to work towards identified solutions.
